Freedom of Borough

Monday 2nd April 2012

I am writing to thank the people of North Down who came out to witness the Freedom of the Borough being awarded to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) last Saturday. It was a wonderful occasion, made even more special as the inspection and parade were bathed in glorious March sunshine.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to thank the people of North Down who came out to witness the Freedom of the Borough being awarded to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) last Saturday. It was a wonderful occasion, made even more special as the inspection and parade were bathed in glorious March sunshine. Police Constables I spoke to told me they felt immense pride walking through our town whilst people clapped and cheered them literally up and down the street! I know that serving officers were also very aware of the many positive comments left on social networking sites by people who could not make it in person on the day.

It was a great occasion and more than worthy of an organisation with an exemplary record and a very proud history. One serving Officer told me that he had 39 years of service with the RUC and PSNI – this is the kind of dedication to duty so prevalent in this organisation.

North Down has a great tradition of being a safe and welcoming environment for our security forces and is home to many current and retired police officers, prison officers and members of HM Armed Forces. That warm welcome was evident on the streets of Bangor on Saturday.

Yours
Cllr Peter Martin
