BT does not deliver

Friday 31st August 2012

If you believe all the adverts you see you would assume that ‘high speed’ broadband is now available everywhere in the UK. However, whilst large population sectors of Northern Ireland can enjoy the much advertised ‘BT Infinity’ broadband, if you’re not the right area – you’re out of luck.

If you believe all the adverts you see you would assume that ‘high speed’ broadband is now available everywhere in the UK. However, whilst large population sectors of Northern Ireland can enjoy the much advertised ‘BT Infinity’ broadband, if you’re not the right area – you’re out of luck.

In parts of Ballycrochan for example – even if you wanted this service you simply couldn’t have it because BT have never upgraded the appropriate infrastructure. In fact this means you can’t enjoy super fast broadband from any of the providers. This could be considered temporarily acceptable if BT were willing to give a commitment with regards to when this upgrade will take place.

I contacted BT about this issue but found it extremely difficult to get the appropriate manager to discuss the issue with. BT refuses to give a date when this infrastructure upgrade may be undertaken. This is extremely frustrating for many constituents especially since this issue has been made a government priority and appropriate treasury money ring fenced for it. You can register your interest at www.BT.com/infinity and perhaps this, along with some targeted lobbying, will encourage them to sort this issue out
