Anti–social behaviour in Ashbury Area

Saturday 10th October 2015

On Thursday 1st October in Ballymagee Primary School a number of political representatives met with residents to discuss the ongoing ‘Anti–social behaviour’ in the greater Ashbury area. This has been a sustained problem for quite a while now and some residents have been specifically targeted. What we heard at the meeting was not just ASB but was actually serious criminal behaviour.

“Even though I’ve been involved in helping constituents in this area for the past number of months I was shocked at the extent and nature of what was going on in the area. Criminal damage, threats of violence, dangerous sexual practices and sustained abuse towards residents all seemed commonplace. The solution to this needs to be multi–disciplinary involving a number of statutory agencies and this process needs to start immediately. I made a public commitment at the meeting to take this issue to Council immediately so on Wednesday 7th I will proposing action be taken as soon as practically possible”
